As educational institutions close for the summer holidays, the tourism spots in Idukki are experiencing a major rush. According to the official figures of the District Tourism Promotion Council, from April 5 to 20, more than 2 lakh tourists visited the district. Most of the tourists visited with their families. The largest number of tourists was recorded on Good Friday, with 27,269 visitors. More than 24,000 people visited on Easter Day, and around 23,044 were in Idukki the day before Vishu. Here are some of the top favourite spots of Idukki that experienced major tourist inflow:

1) Vagamon Adventure Park: As of April 20, 74,949 tourists have visited the spot.
2) Vagamon hills: 62,536 tourists
3) Munnar Botanical Garden: 35,969
4) Ramakkalmedu: 18172
5) Panchalimedu, Idukki Hill View Park, Sreenarayanapuram, Aruvikkuzhi, Mattupetti, Aamappara, Parunthumpara, Calvary Mount, Anjuruli, Malankara Dam, Ayyappankovil, Kalyanathandu and Thommankuthu

Preparations in advance
Idukki's DTPC Secretary Jithesh Jose said that, foreseeing the numbers, safety precautions and preparations were in place for the tourists. Here are some of the restrictions in the tourist spots:
1) Due to strong thunder and lightning in many areas, restrictions are in place in the afternoon.
2) For the same reason, there are restrictions for off-roading as well.
3) The police are taking steps to ensure proper parking and traffic clearance.
4) Vehicles are also regularly checked to prevent drug-related crimes.
