The government identified 30 locations covering 30 km for interventions to mitigate coastal vulnerabilities and enhance resilience along the Kerala coast.
The upgrade will also incorporate maps of master plans by urban civic bodies, coastal regulation zones, and GAIL pipelines.
Both urban bodies and gram panchayats will benefit from these relaxed regulations under the new plan.
The Draft has been drawn based on the Centre's Coastal Regulation Zone notification, 2019, and has the approval of the Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority.
Residents are advised to follow authorities' instructions and stay alert.
The draft of the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kottayam districts has been published as part of the first phase, following continuous efforts for the last three years.
The move comes in the wake of a recent study report which found alarming level of E coli contamination in the Vembanad lake.
The applications for relaxations in stringent CRZ norms are pending with the delay in the reorganisation of the Authority after its term ended last October. The Authority chaired by Environment Department Additional Chief Secretary needs a member secretary and four experts besides the Chairman.
Records reveal that the Authority that is yet to take a decision on similar applications pending for months and years, gave permission for this building in just four days.
If the CZMA is convinced that such activities are needed, the Authority can recommend it to the Central Ministry as per the new provision.
