Kollam: The Kottarakkara Fast Track Special Court sentenced a 74-year-old man to a triple life term for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Kundara. The court found the accused guilty under the POCSO Act but did not uphold the charge of abetment to suicide.
The case dates back to 2017 when the survivor died by suicide following the assault. The victim’s father welcomed the verdict, calling it a victory for justice.
The incident involved the sexual abuse of two sisters, aged 10 and 13, with the younger woman taking her own life due to the trauma she endured. Despite the post-mortem report confirming sexual abuse, the police initially ignored the complaint.
During the trial, key witnesses retracted their statements. The accused even attempted to frame the victim’s father for the crime. However, the court upheld the POCSO charges, delivering a landmark verdict in the case.
