Malappuram: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and P K Kunhalikutty have accused the anti-IUML faction within Samastha of failing to honour agreements reached during discussions aimed at resolving internal disputes.

On Monday, Samastha leaders Umar Faizi Mukkam and Abdul Hameed Faizi Ambalakkad claimed that issues with Sadiq Ali Thangal had been resolved following a meeting at Thangal’s residence. However, by Tuesday evening, Thangal publicly voiced his dissatisfaction, calling for greater clarity on the matter.

The discussions, held on Monday, included Samastha President Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, Sadiq Ali Thangal, and Kunhalikutty, along with five leaders identified with the anti-IUML faction, including Umar Faizi and Abdul Hameed Faizi. During the talks, the faction reportedly expressed regret about their earlier statements against Thangal and assured a resolution.

However, Sadiq Ali Thangal later criticised the leaders for not following through on their commitments during subsequent public statements. He stressed the need for an unequivocal public clarification to avoid further confusion.

"They expressed regret for the remarks made against me, but this was expected to be conveyed openly to the public. Instead, their communication lacked sincerity," said Thangal.

P K Kunhalikutty echoed Thangal’s sentiments, stating that Samastha leaders had assured Thangal of a public acknowledgement of their regret but failed to deliver. "They left with a mutual understanding but did not fulfil their promise. Providing factual clarity is essential, which is why we are addressing this now," Kunhalikutty said, adding that Jifri Thangal has been informed of the developments.

Meanwhile, Jifri Thangal confirmed that the issues remain unresolved. Umar Faizi remarked that apologies should be directed only to God, hinting at dissatisfaction with the resolution process.

The ongoing tensions within Samastha and its relationship with the IUML remain unresolved, highlighting the need for further dialogue to reach a comprehensive settlement.
