Kochi: A medical student died after falling from the top floor of a hostel building in Chalakkal here on Sunday. The deceased is K Fathima Shahana (21), a second-year student at the Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences and a native of Kannur.

Shahana fell from the seventh floor of the hostel building. The police conducted a site investigation. Shahana was staying on the fifth floor of the hostel and had gone to visit her friends on the seventh floor.

Preliminary findings by the police suggest that she might have slipped or accidentally fallen backwards while talking to her friends. The police are investigating to ascertain whether there was any foul play involved in the incident.
