Kochi: The Ernakulam Judicial Magistrate Court granted interim bail on Tuesday to the three accused arrested in connection with alleged safety lapses in a dance event at the JLN stadium, Kaloor, during which Uma Thomas MLA fell down from a gallery, suffering severe injuries.
The arrested were Thrikkakara resident MT Krishnakumar, V Benny from Mulanthuruthy, and Shameer, the CEO of Mridanga Vision, a Wayanad-based company that organised the event. Krishnakumar's company, KK Productions, was responsible for managing the stage, and Benny built the VIP gallery without adequate safety features, police said. The court will consider the case on January 3, and until then, the accused will remain on interim bail.
Earlier in the day, the Kerala High Court disposed of the anticipatory bail application moved by two other accused in the case. Justice P Krishna Kumar ordered Nigosh Kumar M, a native of Meppadi in Wayanad and the owner of Mridanga Vision, and Janeesh P S, the proprietor of Oscar Events, the event management partner of the dance programme, to surrender by 2 pm on January 2 before the Palarivattom police.
The order said the police are entitled to arrest them if they fail to surrender. In their bail plea, the two accused told the court that though the police registered the case under bailable offences, Section 110 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, a non-bailable offence, was later incorporated into the case. The section deals with attempt to commit culpable homicide.
