Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rain is likely to continue in isolated places across Kerala till Decemebr 18. As per the IMD forecast, a cyclonic circulation prevailing over the South Andaman Sea is likely to strengthen as a low-pressure area and move to the Tamil Nadu coast. Under the influence of this, heavy rain accompanied by lightning is likely to batter the state in the next five days.

IMD has sounded a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha on Saturday. Heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in these districts.

As per the IMD alert issued at 4 pm, light to moderate rainfall is likely to lash Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram by 7 pm.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority predicted that Sabarimala is likely to witness light rainfall on Saturday evening. In view of the adverse weather conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts till December 18.
