Cherthala: Ahead of the next academic year, school authorities across Kerala are busy admitting new students. History was likely scripted at the Government Town Lower Primary School here in Kerala's Alappuzha district, as 247 students took admission in just one hour.
About 15 counters manned by teachers were set up for the special admission drive held between 11 and 12 noon on May 3. Around 120 students joined in class one, six students joined class 2, while five in class 3, and four in class 1. The rest of the students joined in the LKG and UKG divisions.
As many as 233 students joined the school in 2.5 hours last year – a feat that brought recognition even from the agency named Best of India Records. The feat is stupendous though no comparable records of this category are kept or claimed about anywhere.
Headmistress R Pushpalatha said that admission process will continue.
Municipality chairman P Unnikrishnan inaugurated the special admission drive.
The excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities attracted children to the student-friendly school, authorities said.
There are 650 students in the school which also has a website and YouTube channel.
