Pimples are a cosmetic concern for many people. However, according to traditional Chinese medicine, pimples can also serve as warnings about our health. This method of assessing health by examining the face is called Mian Xiang in Chinese. Although the scientific community is divided on its validity and accuracy, Mian Xiang has been practised in China for over 3,000 years. According to traditional Chinese medicine, pimples on specific areas of the face are linked to the following health issues:
1. Pimples on the forehead
Pimples on the forehead indicate problems with the digestive system. Traditional Chinese medicine suggests that they may be caused by irritable bowel syndrome or a poor diet. Stress and lack of sleep are also believed to contribute to pimples in this area.

2. Pimples on the temple
Mian Xiang associates pimples on the temples (the area between the forehead and ears) with kidney and bladder infections.
3. Pimples between the eyebrows
Pimples between the eyebrows may signal liver problems. According to Mian Xiang, stress on the liver from alcohol consumption, fatty foods, and toxins can result in skin issues, including pimples in this area.
4. Pimples beneath the eyes
According to traditional Chinese medicine, dark spots, pimples, and puffiness under the eyes are signs of dehydration and stress.

5. Nasal pimples
In traditional Chinese medicine, the left side of the nose is connected to the left side of the heart and the right side to the right side of the heart. Redness, black pimples, and oiliness on the nose are considered symptoms of cholesterol and blood pressure issues.
6. Pimples on the cheeks
Traditional Chinese medicine links pimples on the cheeks to the stomach, spleen, and lungs. Redness on the cheeks indicates a stomach infection, while breakouts may be signs of respiratory problems such as allergies or sinus infections.
7. Pimples on the chin
Pimples on the chin are associated with hormonal imbalances and reproductive system issues. Hormonal changes and stress, particularly during menstruation, are believed to manifest as skin breakouts in this area.
Note: While these can be considered indicators, it's better not to attempt self-medication. Consult qualified healthcare providers to analyse the reasons for pimples and how they can be treated.
