Santhosh, an expatriate, is elated to share his experiences of building a house of his own at his hometown in Nilambur, Malappuram. The construction of the house had begun around three years ago. However, the works lagged as the family wasn’t here to oversee the construction. Now, Santhosh’s wife and kids have moved back to Kerala to live in their brand new house.
The family wanted their dream abode to feature an elegant blend of contemporary and traditional styles. Noted designer Asar Juman prepared the perfect plan by catering to the family’s interests and likes. Moreover, the family had been impressed by Asar’s houses that were featured on various online home style and décor features.
Clay tiles have been paved on the sloped roof. The show wall in natural cladding is the highlight of the elevation. Interestingly, a car porch hasn’t been built as part of the structure as Santhosh is still abroad. They plan to build one, if required in the future, away from the structure. The front yard, meanwhile, is paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers.
Designed in 2800 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, and kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms and a balcony as well. The formal living area is arranged separately to ensure privacy to the family members inside. The custom made cushioned couches that adorn the formal living space are classy and add a regal look to the area. The family says that their guests often shower praise on the unique design and finish of the pretty couches.
The sliding door on one of the walls in the family living area brings sunshine and fresh air abundantly into the house. Grilles too have been installed here to ensure security. One could enjoy the running brook on the back side of the house, if this glass door is opened. The cool breeze that flows from here makes the interiors extremely pleasant as well. A quaint pooja space is arranged just beside the family living area.
The stairway is compact and doesn’t take too much space. The hand railings, meanwhile, are done in GI.
A pantry space is what connects the dining area and the kitchen. The kitchen cabinets are done in plywood with veneer finish. Meanwhile, the counter top has been paved with granite. A quaint breakfast table completes the extremely functional kitchen.
The bedrooms are bath attached and have separate dressing spaces.
Santhosh says he feels happy and proud that his brand new house is awaiting him at his hometown.
