Chennai: Malayalam actor Baburaj on Sunday claimed that the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) had a particular agenda in raising a banner of revolt against the artists' body, AMMA, by trumpeting the 2017 actress attack case. Baburaj on Sunday said that he has always supported the assaulted actress and cited his own experience of being expelled from the body which was in the forefront of taking up welfare issues of the movie artists.
“Even I have had both good and bad times with the association. Before veteran actor Thilakan, I was also ousted from AMMA,” Baburaj said.
The actor , who is also an office-bearer of the Association for Malayalam Movie Artists, said that the association has called for a meeting of the executive council on October 24. Baburaj also said that he doubted the intentions of the WCC. "They are trying to distance the attacked actress from us (AMMA)," he claimed.
Baburaj's reaction came a day after the WCC leaders alleged that the leadership of the AMMA had been indulging in 'victim shaming' and 'mocking' at those who had chosen to speak about the attack case.
