Thiruvananthapuram: The government is set to take action against all staff members who were on duty in the Covid ward of medical college hospital here after an infected patient R Anil Kumar,55, was found with maggots wriggling over his wounds.

The medical college hospital superintendent has issued show cause notices to 10 staff members in connection with the shocking incident. The preliminary report given by the Director of Medical Education which recommended further action, has been handed over to Health Minister K K Shailaja.

Meanwhile, the condition of Anil Kumar, who is currently under treatment at the surgical ward of Government Hospital Peroorkada, is improving. The patient while recalling his horrific experience said that one of the staff members of the medical college had tied his legs and hands to the cot and denied water and food for days.

However, medical college superintendent Dr M S Sharmad said there was no truth in the allegations being levelled against the medical college in connection with the incident.
