What are Poshan Abhiyaan and Poshan Pakhwada? How they help women

Mail This Article
India is a country that faces many nutrition challenges, and keeping that in mind, various government schemes were announced in this year's Union Budget. One was 'Poshan 2.0,' which aims to create awareness on healthy eating habits, nutritional deficiencies and improve the well-being of children, girls and women, especially in underdeveloped areas. 'Poshan' means nutrition in Hindi. 'Poshan Abhiyaan' and 'Poshan Pakhwada' are two programmes under Poshan 2.0. They were launched in previous years, but are upgraded this year to focus on women's health. Both 'poshan abhiyaan' and 'pakhwada' have more than 5K search volume on Google Trends as they were launched today. Various programmes under them will be organised till April 22. Here's what you should know:
How it helps
1) Poshan Abhiyaan will promote nutritious food among children and women
2) Poshan Pakhwada will focus on the first 1,000 days of children's lives, as they are critical periods for development
3) Anganwadi workers will use a 'Poshan Tracker' to monitor the nutrition of pregnant women and girls in the village.
4) They would conduct occasional home visits, especially if there are children under the age of six, pregnant or recently delivered women at home, and inquire about general diet, baby food and other health issues. They would update it on the app and give you whatever support is required to handle malnutrition and the need for supplements.
5) They can also refer you to take-home rations, vitamin tablets, primary health centres, and nutrition rehabilitation centres and provide the required counselling whenever needed.
