Kozhikode: In the backdrop of the Nipah outbreak, the University of Calicut has postponed examinations scheduled to be held in its affiliated colleges in the containment zones in Kozhikode. The Controller of Examination said that the University will conduct separate examinations for students who are residing in containment zones later if they produce a document issued by the health department.

Education Minister V Sivankutty has also instructed the education department to conduct online classes for students living in containment zones.

In a bid to prevent the spread of Nipah virus, Kozhikode District collector A Geetha declared 47 wards of eight panchayats as containment zones in the district. The local bodies include Nipah-infected Maruthongara and Ayanchery panchayats, and six nearby local bodies.

The district administration has also imposed strict restrictions in the containment zones to prevent movement of people. Entry and exit of people are banned in the wards.  Residents are also instructed not to venture out of their homes without an emergency.
