Government made a surprising move by withholding their honorarium and incentives for February.
According to the protesters, around 26,000 ASHA workers in Kerala are awaiting the payment of at least two months’ honorarium of ₹7,000 each and three months’ incentives of around ₹5,000 each.
Sikkim pays Rs 10,000 to ASHA workers.
Finance Minister KN Balagopal argued that payments to ASHA workers were disrupted after the Central Government stopped funding.
The director, in a circular, had ordered the agitating workers to get back to their jobs immediately.
The hostel’s housekeeper and security personnel have also been removed following the incident.
The action followed an investigation by the Director of Medical Education, conducted on the directive of Health Minister Veena George.
The project will receive an external assistance of Rs 2,424 crore from the World Bank.
The list of dues shows that 177 suppliers await payment from the government for an amount ranging between Rs 848 to as high as Rs 67.9 crore.
