Veeyapuram Chundan of Village Boat Club, Kainakari, won second place.
John Sebastian won a place on the Pallathuruthy Boat Club team through selection trials.
The races will begin at 11 am today.
For the first time in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race's history, women rowers from the neighbouring Ernakulam district will also participate in the iconic event.
The event is scheduled for September 28.
From some iconic clubs as old as the boat race to new clubs and teams, 19 snake boats will be participating in the race this year.
The camps get active at 6 am every day.
The annual water carnival, which marks the anniversary of the idol installation at the Sree Parthasarathy temple, is regarded as one of the oldest events of its kind in the state.
