Forgotten India player spares Mumbai's blushes after Rohit, Jaiswal fail

Rohit Sharma and a pair of India cricketers should be thankful to a forgotten national star for pulling Mumbai out of misery in the Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir.
Pacer Shardul Thakur, who hasn't played for the country since 2023, scored a century to rescue Mumbai. Along with fellow tail-ender Tanush Kotian, Thakur lifted Mumbai from a precarious 101/7 to 274/7. Thakur and Kotian were unbeaten on 113 and 58 respectively at stumps on the second day.

Earlier, after struggling in their first attempt on return to domestic cricket, India stars Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to live up to the expecatations in the second innings as well. Indian skipper Rohit and his young national team opener Jaiswal could not capitalise on a decent start and perished for 28 and 26 runs respectively. Rohit (3) and Jaiswal (4) were dismissed cheaply in Mumbai's first innings, which folded for 120. Rohit hit three sixes and two boundaries in his 35-ball innings.
Thakur and Kotian have given Mumbai a decent chance to win the match as the hosts lead by 188 runs on the second day. J&K had made 206 in response to Mumbai's first innings, with opener Shubham Khajuria scoring 53 and Abid Mushtaq adding 44 to secure a handy 86-run lead.
