TVM man gets 78-year RI for sexually abusing minor girl

Thiruvananthapuram POCSO court sentenced a 32-year-old man to 78 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh.
Judge M P Shibu delivered the verdict, convicting the accused, who is a relative of the survivor. He repeatedly abused her, recorded videos of the assault, and continued the crime for nearly a year. He also threatened the child of circulating the footage to silence her.
The crime came to light when his wife discovered the videos. Following the complaint, Pangode police registered a case and arrested the accused promptly. The trial lasted 14 months, during which the court denied him bail.
Circle Inspector Shanif H S led the investigation and submitted the chargesheet. The prosecution, represented by Public Prosecutor J K Ajithprasad, presented 21 witnesses and 45 documents as evidence.
