Thrissur: The family of YouTuber Manavalan, currently on remand at Thrissur Viyyur Jail in connection with a case of attempted murder, has accused jail authorities of mistreatment.
According to his parents, Manavalan informed them that prison authorities forcibly cut his hair while holding him down by the neck. The family further claimed that prison officials made three attempts to have him assaulted by other inmates.
They also alleged that jail officials were trying to depict him as mentally ill, with threats of further mistreatment. Following the haircut incident, Manavalan, reportedly distressed, was admitted to the Thrissur Mental Health Centre, which the family believes was an attempt to portray him as mentally unstable.
The case stems from an incident where Manavalan allegedly attempted to kill students of Kerala Varma College by ramming his car into them. While in remand, the family alleges that jail officer Nixon and two other identifiable staff members acted with hostility, citing that reels were filmed outside the jail.
Manavalan’s mother, Rayisha, has filed complaints with the court, the Chief Minister, the Director General of Prisons, and the State Police Chief, demanding action against the officials involved. The family claims the mistreatment is part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish their son’s image and inflict mental trauma.
