Kochi: A temporary resolution has been reached in the conflict within the Ernakulam–Angamaly Archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church. The 21 priests, conducting a prayer vigil, ended their protest after a discussion with Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany.
The priests agreed to halt their protest following assurances that the canonical committees and the Curia would be reorganised. The priests also accepted Archbishop Pamplany's request for one month to examine the issues further.
The resolution followed a two-and-a-half-hour discussion that concluded at 1 am Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany and the Vicar General of the Major Archdiocese met directly with the 21 priests during the meeting.
As a result, the priests decided to conclude their prayer vigil. Fr Kuriakose Mundadan, Secretary of the Archdiocese Priests' Committee, stated that the discussions had clarified several matters, and the priests' patience had been fruitful.
Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany expressed the Church’s desire to resolve the issues and confirmed that a month had been requested to study the matters in depth.
The discussion, led by the District Collector, prompted Archbishop Pamplany to meet with the priests directly. The meeting focused exclusively on church-related issues, with the police clarifying that the discussion did not address the cases filed against the priests.
