Kannur: A leopard trapped in a wild boar snare in Kakkayangad, Kannur, was tranquilised on Monday morning. The leopard was spotted by local residents after a dog barked upon the animal's capture.
Although wild boars frequently visit the area, this is the first time a predator has been seen in the inhabited zones. The Kannur Collector has imposed prohibitory orders in Muzhakkunnu Panchayat, including Kakkayangad, until Tuesday morning.
Forest officials who arrived at the scene administered tranquiliser shots to the animal. A team from the Forest Department in Wayanad also reached the location to assess the leopard’s health before the tranquilisation.
