Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police on Tuesday found the bottle in which the pesticide, used to poison 23-year-old Sharon Raj, was stored.
Sharon's ex-girlfriend Greeshma, the prime accused in the case, had told police that she disposed of the bottle near the house.
Police found the bottle from a nearby pond during the evidence collection. The label of the bottle was also found near the steps at Greeshma's house. The search for the bottle of the ayurvedic medicine will be held later.
The police also recovered four drinking water bottles from a cowshed at Greeshma's home.
Two of the bottles contained green and blue liquids. The nature and chemical composition of the materials can be determined only after further examination.
The house was sealed after the evidence collection.
Evidence collection at pesticide shop
Though Greeshma had initially claimed that nobody knew about the poison, it later came to light that her mother Sindhu and uncle Nirmal Kumar were involved in the crime.
During the press conference, the police said a pesticide named Kapiq was used to poison Sharon. Greeshma had revealed to the police earlier that her uncle had thrown the pesticide bottle away.
Evidence collection was also done at the shop which sold the pesticide. The shop owner stated that though Kapiq was sold at the shop earlier it was no longer available at the shop. Though Nirmal Kumar said that he purchased the pesticide from the shop, the elderly woman could not recall his face.
The scooter used by Nirmal for getting rid of the evidence was also taken into custody by the police.
Meanwhile, Sindhu and Kumar were taken to an Ayurvedic hospital for evidence collection on Tuesday. The police collected the sample of the Ayurvedic decoction given to Sharon from the hospital. Greeshma's mother had purchased the same from the hospital.
Greeshma, a 22-year-old post-graduate Literature student, and Sharon, a Radiology student, came close during a college trip. But Greeshma distanced herself from Sharon when a marriage alliance cropped up.
Though she argued that their families would never agree to their relationship as they belonged to different castes, Sharon refused to break off their affair.
The photos and videos recorded during their relationship were on Sharon's phone. Greeshma feared that Sharon would hand them over to her fiance, the police said.
Greeshma began resenting Sharon after he refused to delete the images and videos; thereafter, she hatched the plan to poison him, the investigators said. Greeshma killed Sharon by spiking his drink with pesticide.
After Greeshma was arrested on Monday, the police also arrested Greeshma's mother and her uncle for destruction of evidence.
Police has also added one more case of attempted suicide on Greeshma on Tuesday.
