Palakkad: The management of the Nehru College of Engineering & Research Centre at Pampady had enough reasons to get even with Jishnu Pranoy, the engineering student who committed suicide after being branded a cheat by his teachers and tortured by the authorities.
The police have recovered WhatsApp messages from the student's phone that showed he had protested the arbitrary change of exam dates by the college management.
The students were at the receiving end when an exam date was changed multiple times. The exam was originally scheduled for December 2 but students were told that they will be writing it only after the Christmas break. As soon as the students left the hostel for their homes, the authorities rescheduled the exam and conducted it on December 13.
Jishnu took up the issue and petitioned the education minister and the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University about the inconvenience. He posted copies of the petitions on a WhatsApp group with a voice message criticizing the college management.
The messages were missing from the student’s phone but the police have now recovered them.
The messages will be crucial in building a case against the management, accused of victimizing the student and trying to trap him with a charge of cheating in the exam.
