The Thiruvananthapuram corporation is all set to open a women’s gym to make the women in the city physically and mentally fit. The construction of the gym has been completed at Iranimuttom in Attukal ward. The authorities aim to offer modern gym facilities at affordable rates for women who wish to engage in physical exercises and workouts. The gymnasium will function on the second floor of the 93rd Anganwadi building.

The women’s gym is likely to be inaugurated next month. Most women, especially homemakers, are reluctant to go to the gym due to high fees. Councillor R Unnikrishnan says the corporation offers them a chance to enjoy workouts without charging exorbitant fees. The corporation has procured 25 modern workout machines and equipment by spending Rs 11.54 lakh. Meanwhile, the gym will be open only in the morning and evening.

The corporation first decided to open a women’s gym at Iranimuttom and Petta. However, the project in Petta was dropped after the sports council expressed discontent over the intended space.
