While celebrating Holi and immersing ourselves in its festivity, not many think about how the colour can be removed from our faces without hurting skin, especially facial skin. Many use methods like oiling, lotions, and more for this, but it's important to be gentle on your skin after Holi, so that the skin barrier isn't damaged while washing off the colours. Here are a few steps from Kochi-based dermatologist Dr Krithi Ullal to remove the colours from your face and hair in a skin-friendly manner.

For colour removal from facial skin
1) First, wash your face with cold water or ice water. Do not use ice packs or cubes; just use the water.
2) Soon after, use a mild, pH-balanced, non-comedogenic (those that don't give acne) face wash or syndet bars to wash off the colour.
3) After that, hydrate your face using a fragrance-free moisturiser.

For colour removal from hair
Wash the hair with water, a sulphate-free shampoo and moisturise the locks with a deep-conditioning mask. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, rinse it off and seal the hair with any leave-on serum.
If the colour still doesn't come off...
Do not over-scrub the skin. The colour will eventually come off of your skin and hair. Just keep moisturising the skin and applying sunscreen.
