Kamal Haasan and late actress Sridevi have thrilled the movie goers with their incredible on-screen chemistry in a handful of blockbusters in many languages. The on-screen couple enjoyed unbelievable fan following and their admirers wished they got hitched in real life too. Now Haasan has opened up about the special bond that he shared with the diva. The note titled ‘The 28 Avatars of Sridevi’ written by the veteran actor was read at an event organised to pay tribute to the late actress, as part of the recently concluded Mumbai Film Festival.

Haasan revealed, in the note, that Sridevi’s mother Rajeshwari had often asked him to marry her daughter as the actors were incredibly close. However, he had replied that he couldn’t marry someone whom he considered as a family member. The duo had met for the first time in 1976 on the sets of the Tamil movie ‘Moondru Mudichu’ when Sridevi was just a 13 year old.

The actor recalled that it was his responsibility, as the assistant director of that movie, to do rehearsals along with Sridevi. He noted that as they had acted in lots of love scenes together, their admirers were under the false impression that they were in love in real life as well. He, however, stressed that they had great respect for each other and Sridevi had, until her death, addressed him as ‘sir’.

Sridevi drowned in the bath tub of a luxury hotel in Dubai in February this year.
