Bollywood actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan has reportedly signed up Telugu film actor Prabhas for 'Mahabharat,' one of the biggest period dramas Bollywood has ever seen.

Produced by Mukesh Ambani, the movie will be a Rs 1000-crore project according to the sources.

Media reports claimed that 'Bahubali' fame Prabhas will play the character of Arjuna in Aamir's Mahabharat. Though there haven't been any official confirmation regarding the news, sources say that Aamir offered Prabhas the iconic role in his ambitious project which the latter didn't refuse.

Aamir is keen about performing the character of Krishna in the movie. Bollywood film audience are going gaga over the project as there are already several speculations made regarding the cast and crew of the movie. Gossips have it that Deepika Padukone will play the role of Draupadi, the consort of the Pandava brothers, in the epic drama.

Earlier, Aamir had dropped his plan to proceed with the massive period drama after the release of the movie 'Padmavat' stoked communal controversies. He resumed the project recently after other artistes like Amitabh Bachchan  chipped in. 

'Mahabharat' will be released in three parts. Aamir's latest movie 'Thugs of Hindostan' will reach theatres on November 7. Meanwhile, Prabhas is busy with 'Saho,' directed by Sujeeth. Shraddha Kapoor, Neil Nithin Mukesh and Jacky Shroff play significant characters in this movie which will be released in 2019.
