Coffee is a product whose quality can be influenced by even the slightest change in flavour. This makes its taste crucial not only for consumers but also for farmers and exporters. As a result, coffee tasters play a significant role in the global coffee industry.

The Coffee Board of Bengaluru, under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has opened applications for the Post Graduate Diploma in Coffee Quality Management (PGDCQM) for the academic year 2024-25. This 12-month program is designed to train aspiring coffee tasters and quality managers. Applications will be accepted via registered or speed post until September 16.

Eligibility
The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical training in coffee cultivation, processing, quality control, and marketing. Graduates can pursue careers as professional coffee tasters.

Eligible candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in fields such as Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioscience, Food Technology, Food Science, Environmental Science, or Agricultural Science.

Preference will be given to applicants sponsored by coffee-related businesses, such as plantations and exporters, though regular candidates are also encouraged to apply. Selection will be based on an entrance exam, followed by an interview and a sensory evaluation test on October 18.

Fees and accommodation
The course fee is Rs. 2.5 lakh, but candidates from Scheduled categories are eligible for a 50% fee reduction. The program is divided into three trimesters, with free accommodation provided during the first trimester. Candidates must arrange their own accommodation for the remainder of the course.
