After a heavy refresh, Air India received its first legacy Boeing 777 - 3000 ER aircraft, and the updated cabins have a classy feel, with new seats, entertainment systems, top-end upholstery, new cushions, carpets and more. The update was done in Singapore, and the process took around 50 days, as per reports. All 13 B777 planes in the airline's fleet will undergo the same treatment by the end of this year. The refreshed planes will be first deployed in ultra-long routes like New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, Newark and San Francisco, which generally take more than 14 hours. The other legacy aircraft, like B787 are also expected to be refitted by the end of 2027. Passengers can experience a more comfortable journey in refreshed interiors for the long flights, while the airline tries to remain competitive in a tough market.

The retrofit programme installs over 3,500 new seats in the economy class, around 600 seats in the premium economy, and 200 business class seats in around 27 planes. Portable electronic device holders, wider seat pitches, USB ports, and spacious legroom are also part of the plane's amenities. The refurbishing is not limited to the interiors of the aircraft. The plane is also given a complete exterior repaint, and it features the airline's new livery and branding.
