Abu Dhabi: The UAE National Adviser Bureau Limited has proposed a unique project of a high-speed underwater train connecting Dubai and Mumbai. The train, which travels at a speed of 1000 kilometres per hour underwater, can transport not only passengers but also drinking water and fuel. If this project becomes a reality, then the traveling time between India and the UAE will be reduced to just two hours. Currently, it takes four hours to fly from India to the UAE.
The underwater high-speed train project has ignited a new hope among the expatriates, while the proposed India–UAE passenger ship service remains a promise. Abdullah Al Shehi, the chief consultant at the National Advisor Bureau Limited, noted that since the project allows transportation of both passengers and goods, it will benefit not only India and the UAE but also other countries through which the railway lines pass. Moreover, he expressed hope that the project would strengthen the ties between the two countries.
UAE could transport fuel to India, while drinking water could be taken to the Arab nation in high-speed trains. Meanwhile, the underwater train will be designed for the passengers to enjoy the mesmerizing sights of the deep sea. However, installing the extensive rail network underwater is quite challenging. Besides feasibility studies and various inspections, the project requires the assent of the countries through which the rail network passes, as well as an exorbitant budget worth millions of rupees. Dubai and Mumbai will be connected via a rail network of over 2000 kilometres. If both countries approve the project, the authorities plan to complete the construction and start the service by 2030.
If this project is completed, the economic corridor connecting the subcontinent to Europe will also become active. The project envisages an economic corridor connecting India and the UAE via sea, Israel via rail network, and Europe via sea.
