Abu Dhabi: Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar recently revealed plans to start new smart bus services for expatriates from Cochin airport to various cities. He said there would be two services from the Cochin International Airport to Thiruvalla and three to Kozhikode. The smart bus service connecting the airport to these cities will likely be launched in three months. The service has been scheduled so that one bus will be arranged for each passenger arriving in two aeroplanes. Instead of running with empty seats, the bus will wait in case the planes get delayed.
Although these are long-distance trips, there will be stops along the way. Meanwhile, the minister said that the expatriates should submit an appeal to the RTO if they want to advance their driving tests in Kerala. He also added that he would check whether relaxations could be allowed in the driving test for those who possess driving licenses from foreign countries, including the UAE.
KSRTC Kochi double-decker bus delayed
Kochi’s much celebrated KSRTC double-decker bus ‘City Tour Package,’ which was supposed to be launched by New Year, is still delayed. The old-modelled double clutch bus, which was to operate after 6 pm from Madhava Pharmacy via Container Road to Edappally, Kundanoor, Thoppumpady, Mattancherry and Fort Kochi, is apparently delayed due to dangling electric cables on the way, at least in 40 spots! . The 70-seater open-decked refurbished bus was brought from Thalassery, and its trial run was completed. Currently, it’s in the Ernakulam bus depot garage.
