Southern Railway to reinstate the numbers of 288 trains in January: Details

Shoranur: The old numbers of the trains under Southern Railway would be reinstated after a gap of almost five years. The railway temporarily changed the train numbers during COVID-19, and some trains were cancelled. Meanwhile, 288 trains will be changed from January 1 onwards. Among them, 86 train services run in Kerala. 34 trains, including MEMUs in Palakkad district, are included in this list. The railway has restored the old numbers to bring the passenger, MEMU, superfast and express trains under the same codes.

Before the pandemic times, the number of passenger trains began at 5, while express train numbers began at 1, the number of superfast trains started at 2, and MEMU train numbers began at 6. However, after the Covid, the train numbers began at zero, and the passenger trains were converted to express trains. 144 passenger trains and 148 MEMU trains are included in the new list. It must be noted that only the numbers of these trains would be changed and not the schedule. The Southern Railway said that the changes would be effective from January onwards.
