The Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru (20631/20632) Vande Bharat via Alappuzha, an eight-coach train, will soon be replaced by a 20-coach express. The train, which enjoys an occupancy of 200%, will have 1,246 seats in the upgraded train. Recently, it was announced that the Tirunelveli - Chennai route's eight-coached Vande Bharat train would also be replaced with the newly introduced 20-coach train that Southern Railway received a few days ago. Kerala's other Vande Bharat Express, which runs in the Thiruvananthapuram - Kasaragod route (20634), has 16 coaches and 1016 seats. A while ago, it was announced as the no.1 train in the country among the 17 Vande Bharat Expresses that enjoy 100% occupancy.
The new, longer trains will replace the existing white-blue colour combination of Vande Bharat trains with a grey-black-orange combination. The Trivandrum - Mangalore train, which has a total travel time of 8 hours and 35 minutes, has nine halts during the total distance of 620 km. Its average speed is 72 km/hr. India's first 20-coach Vande Bharat was launched two months ago in the Varanasi - New Delhi route. As per reports, the railway ministry also plans to bring out 24-coach Vande Bharat Expresses.
