Kochi: The Kochi metro service will run extra services from the JLN Stadium station on September 15, Onam day, when Kerala Blasters will kick off the season at their home ground in the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. The last service from the JLN stadium towards Aluva and Tripunithura will be at 11 pm. Those who arrive in the metro to watch the match can purchase the return ticket and the first one. This will help them avoid the long queues at the station. The passengers could enter the stadium from the station without crossing the road. Both the football fans and the public could utilise the extra metro services.
Passengers can book Kochi Metro digital tickets through WhatsApp by sending a message to KMRL WhatsApp number 9188957488. During normal hours, commuters will get a 10 per cent discount on mobile QR purchased through WhatsApp and a 50 % discount during non-peak hours (5.45 am to 7 am and 10 pm to 11 pm) from the original fares. This service was launched early this year.
Meanwhile, Kochi Water Metro also has plans to increase services around Onam. It will also begin service to Mattancherry by October. The construction of the boat terminal near the Mattancherry Corporation Park is expected to be completed by then. Although there is a jetty of the State Water Transport Department on the other side of the park, there is currently no service to Mattancherry due to silt accumulation. Once the terminal construction is completed, the Water Metro’s Mattancherry service will commence. By then, three new boats will join the Water Metro fleet, making this the sixth route of the Water Metro in Kochi.
