At all the check posts to enter the Nilgiris, winding queues reportedly force tourists to waste their time instead of enjoying their off days, reports Manorama Online. While many are returning without entering Ooty, as they weren't aware of the e-passes required, others are miffed by the time authorities take to check e-pass holders and let them in. Checks are held at various points like Pattavayal, Nambiarkunnu, Thaloor, Chelody, Nadukani Churam. At one point, the servers hung, leading to the authorities deciding against letting any vehicle in. The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Madras High Court against the e-pass and is seeking a review. On weekdays, only 6,000 visitors' vehicles can enter Nilgiris and on weekends, 8000, till June 30. Meanwhile, Ooty merchants had also recently conducted a 24-hour hartal to protest against the e-pass.
