Thiruvananthapuram: The Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL) stated that the airports in Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru have been permanently included in the Digi Yatra project launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. AAHL director Jeet Adani said the facility has been arranged to ensure a fast and contactless travel experience. This facial recognition system enhances the air travel experience by avoiding paper documents. Besides, it ensures foolproof security by verifying the passengers’ travel documents using their biometric data. Digi Yatra will significantly reduce the delay at airports. The system that has been running at the airport for two months on an experimental basis will now be permanent.
What is Digi Yatra?
Digi Yatra is an initiative the Ministry of Civil Aviation coordinates to transform air travel in India with facial recognition and paperless processing. The data of the passengers would be processed using this system ahead of the departure entry point check, security check, and aircraft boarding. So, the passengers need not keep their ID cards and boarding pass with them for the boarding. Passengers should download the Digi Yatra app and register their details in it. The app is available for download on Android and iOS phones.
ID creation
Passengers should upload their name, email ID, mobile number and details of their voter ID, driving license, Aadhar, etc, as well as a selfie in the app. The Digi Yatra id would be created by submitting these details. You should then upload the boarding pass in the Digi Yatra app. If it is the passenger’s first flight, then he/she should report at the registration kiosk in the airport to verify the documents. After verification, these details would be added to the Digi Yatra profile in the central system.
Here's how to use the Digi Yatra ID
Passengers with the Digi Yatra ID should enter for boarding through the e–gate at the airport. The boarding pass or the digital boarding pass would be scanned here. The passenger should then show their face to the facial recognition camera installed at the e–gate to complete the check-in process. The e–gate would be opened after the ticket and the Digi Yatra ID are successfully verified. You could place your luggage at the check–in desk after entering the terminal. The passenger should then proceed to the Digi Yatra gate. After completing another verification round using the facial recognition camera here, the passenger could proceed for security checks.
Advantages
Passengers need not show their boarding pass or ID at multiple points. This system reduces delays or long waiting hours in the queue as there is minimal human intervention.
