Riyad: Saudi Arabia is all set to build a unique oil-themed amusement park called ‘The Rig’ to boost the country’s scope of adventure tourism. The authorities plan to build it in the middle of the ocean. The country hopes to lure more than nine million travellers per year from around the world once the project is ready. The project is developed by the Oil Park Development Company (OPDC) with financial assistance from the public investment fund. The theme park merges water sports with adventure tourism. Interestingly, the water amusement park will be designed in the structure of an oil rig.
What does 'The Rig' offer
According to the makers, it will have many tourist attractions including three hotels with 11 restaurants, many retail shops and daring activities above and below the sea. It will also have indoor activities like a cinema, a kids centre, a multi-purpose arena, an e-sports centre and an edutainment avenue. It will also have 72 other entertainment and attraction offerings like a water activities centre, an amusement park, a diving centre and an adventure park.
How to reach the park
The park, which will be established in the Arabian Sea near Al Jereed island and the Al Berri oil field, will be accessible through unique means of transportation like fast ferries, seaplanes, helicopters and yachts. It will have a gross floor area of over 3,00,000 sq metres.
