Kumarakam: The quaint countryside of Kumarakam has become Kerala's most preferred wedding destination, minting an average of Rs 18 crore this year. Around 30 destination weddings were hosted in various resorts at Kumarakam this year. This includes the wedding celebrations of foreigners and Indians from other states. Some people from Kerala, too, chose Kumarakam as their wedding destination. Meanwhile, tourism is thrilled as ten weddings have already been booked for various months next year.

From budget-friendly to luxury weddings
Weddings with a budget of Rs 30 lakh and Rs 1 crore are usually held at Kumarakam. After grand haldi and sangeet functions, most people prefer an open-air wedding ceremony. Foreigners and Indians from other states usually have wedding celebrations that lasts 3 -4 days. The weddings for 2025 have been booked in eight hotels and resorts, including the one owned by KTDC.
Local income
The bride and the groom would arrive at the venue a few days before the event, followed by the wedding guests. They come in groups of at least 300 people. If the hotels and resorts do not have enough rooms to host the guests, then the organisers would book rooms in other nearby resorts and hotels. So, there is a fair distribution of income. Besides, the materials and ingredients required for the wedding are sourced locally. The merchants in Kumarakam, too, enjoy a good income when destination weddings are hosted at the resorts. Recently, tons of tomatoes were brought to a resort here as one of the wedding functions had the theme of the tomato festival in Spain.
