Munnar: Munnar's temperature has plunged below zero degrees, turning the hill station into a winter wonderland. Quite a few places are experiencing snowfall, exciting tourists. The lower division of the Chenduvarai Estate recorded a minus zero degree Celsius in the wee hours of December 25. Meanwhile, the temperature in popular tourist spots like Chenduvarai, Thenmala, Lakshmi Estate, Chittuvara, Nayamakadu, and Lakkad dropped to as low as zero degrees. At the same time, there were two degrees in Munnar Town, Nallathanni, Mattupetti, and Kundala. The lowest temperature of the season was recorded yesterday. The temperature is likely to drop further in the coming days, too. Munnar's temperature had dropped to five degrees a few days ago. Although the nights are freezing cold, the days are warmer, with temperatures recorded at 22 degrees. Meanwhile, tourists have been flocking to Munnar to enjoy the cold weather and the scenic beauty.

Here are a few Munnar-winter-specific activities to enjoy the climate at its best:
1) Head to Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, which is renowned as one of the highest tea plantations in the world, to experience the frosty blanket of nature. Hire a guide to understand the place at its best.
2) Try trekking at Meesapulimala, the Top Station near the Chokramudi Peak. Make sure you wear the right attire and sturdy boots and are ready to get stung by leeches (sprinkling powdered salt on them will eliminate them).
3) If you want a picnic in the snowy ambience, head to Devikulam, a hill station near Munnar. It also has a sacred lake named after Sita, surrounded by snowy hills.
4) Check out the shy yet agile Nilgiri Tahr at the Eravikulam National Park. The rolling hills and the pristine environs are to die for during the winter.
5) In the mood for some adventure in winter? Go for a jeep safari in Kolukkumalai, Chinnakanal, Mattupetty or Mankulam. Book it in advance as the demand rises in winter.
