The small tourism village of Malarikkal in Kerala's Kottayam district is set to showcase its colourful yearly display of water lilies. Although the flowers took a little longer to bloom this time, white flowers have begun blooming alongside the pink ones. Canoes from Kanyakumari have been brought in for the use of tourists, who have already started arriving in Malarikkal. Water lilies present a spectacular display of colour during July, August, and September, and this display will continue until the end of October. In the district, water lilies have already bloomed at Ampattukadavu in Panachikkad and Kizhakkupuram Kadavu in Kollad.
How to reach Malarikkal
To reach Malarikkal, arrive at Illikkal Junction from Kottayam. Turn left onto Thiruvarppu Road and cross the bridge on Kanjiram Boat Jetty Road to arrive at Malarikkal. If one is coming from Kumarakom, reach Illikkal, turn right, and proceed along Thiruvarp Road. For the best view of the flowers, arrive before 7 a.m., as the flowers tend to droop as the day gets hotter.
