Want to be as happy as happy can be or soak in some cheer and bonhomie? Well then, head straight for Happy Cup Cafe on Kamath Lane near Apsara Theatre in Kozhikode. Owners of the cafe, which is a sought after food joint in the city, pitch it as one of the happiest places on the planet.
Step in, you will be welcomed by hundreds of photos of smiling faces of people from across the world.
Happy Cup Cafe is run by two stalwarts who know the ins and outs of the food trade – V. P. Abdulla and Haridas Nambiar. They have dabbled in the trade from the time they sniffed the aroma of food. Abdulla has a chain of over 40 restaurants in the UAE and owns as many in Kerala. As for Haridas Nambiar, his experience of over 26 years has made the joint venture a roaring success in Kozhikode. Nambiar who belongs to Sreekandapuram in Kannur, was the operations head of a restaurant chain in Dubai for over 15 years. Once he left the Gulf, it was Kozhikode that he chose as his field of action.
The two veterans put their heads together and came up with the Happy Cup venture. The newest outlet of Happy Cup on P. T. Usha Road near Taj Residency, is gearing up for inauguration (at the time of writing this article). The two are in the thick of plans for opening outlets in all major towns in the country.
Secret mantra
So what’s it that makes the Happy Cup tick? The joint wanted to be different, to serve food that was different and serve it with love. That evidently was their recipe for happiness. And they knew the heartbeats of Kozhikode’s food crazy folks.
Happy Cup has a spread of coffee, tea, ice coffee, fresh juices, smoothies, mojitos, fruit shakes and milk shakes. As for bites, you have whole lot to choose, from sandwiches to salads, to burgers. So what’s new? These are the regulars in all cafes. But then, they are all totally different from what’s served everywhere and that’s precisely what they call the secret mantra of Happy Cup and what makes it tick.
If it’s tea, it’s laced with saffron. The chocolate shakes are truly 'shaken' with Belgian chocolates. Lotus shake is another novelty. The Belgian chocolate cake and green cheera cake are Happy Cup’s signature items. Ask for theme cakes and the restaurant is ready with your order. The two super foodies believe in reinventing and innovating, which is why the menu keeps changing.

While the base is Italian, the stuffing and ingredients have been tweaked to the liking of Indian palates.
