Mail This Article
It is about 25 years since Mohanlal – Revathi – Jagathy Sreekumar starrer 'Kilukkam' hit the silver screen. In addition to the stellar performance by the cast, the mist covered Ooty provided the perfect setting for the movie. As we celebrate 25 years of Kilukkam we take look at some of the secrets behind a couple of unforgettable scenes
S Kumar, Cinematographer says:
We - Priyan, Lal, and Revathi – used to be the first to reach most of the locations. Some scenes required the veteran actor Thilakan too. We have exploited the early morning mist to the maximum in this movie.

Do you remember that scene where Thilakan and Mohanlal take a morning walk? It is one of those initial scenes in the movie. It was by chance that we discovered the location. We were passing through a beautiful, though secluded place one morning and we liked the place. We decided to do the scene here. We wanted it to look lovely, like some place in Europe. We brought in a lamp post, a couple of chairs and then came the issue of fallen leaves that would add to the charm of the shot. We painstakingly painted leaves and got them to the location on a lorry and scattered it so that it would look like a natural foliage. The place just changed overnight. We shot early in the morning. It was just lovely.

Priyadarshan, Director
The most difficult part of shooting the movie was to get the light correct. Mist lasted just for a couple of hours. We used to do a lot of shooting early in the morning so that we could capitalize on the mist covered location.
We enjoyed shooting 'Kilukkam'. It was like going for a picnic every single day. And maybe that is one of the main reasons why the movie makes us smile even after 25 years.
We leave you with a special video tribute to this cult movie.
