Mukesh Ambani acquires India’s first Boeing 737 Max 9 private aircraft: What's special about it?

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani became the private owner of India’s first Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. This brand-new plane, purchased for a whopping Rs 1000 crore, will be used by the Ambani family for their long-distance travels. With this latest purchase, Mukesh Ambani has become the owner of the most expensive private plane among Indian businessmen. Besides the Boeing 737 Max 9, Reliance Industries also has nine more aircraft in its kitty. The new aeroplane was delivered after many test flights and impressive interior modifications.
The modifications and interior upgradations of Ambani’s plane were conducted at the Euro port Bassel Mulhouse Freiberg (BSL) in Switzerland. Even though the pictures of the airplane’s interiors haven’t come out, aviation enthusiasts are sure that it would boast of luxurious features and modern facilities. This aircraft has been in Switzerland for upgradation since April 13, 2023. Besides, it underwent six major test flights at the airports in Bassel, Geneva, London and Luton. These test flights were significant to analyse the performance of the airplane after the upgradations. The Boeing 737 Max 9 airplane flew from Bassel to Delhi on August 27. It took the plane under 9 hours to cover a distance of 6,234 kilometres. It landed at the airport in Delhi at 7.18 pm on August 28, marking the arrival of India’s most expensive private airplane.
The Boing 737 Max 9 is powered by two CFMI LEAP—1B engines. With 8401 as its MSN number, the plane can cover up to 11,770 kilometres in a single flight. Moreover, the price of this aircraft is estimated to be 118.5 million dollars. When the expenses for the modifications are added, it crosses Rs 1000 crore. Compared to the Boeing Max 8, this plane has a spacious cabin and cargo deck.
Boeing 737 Max 9 in India
Currently, the Boing 737 Max 9 is parked near the cargo terminal at the Delhi airport. Details about the aircraft's upcoming flights are not known. However, this luxury aircraft will be part of Mukesh Ambani’s fleet of impressive private jets, carrying the family around the globe. The aircraft is likely to be flown to Mumbai, where Reliance Industries is based.
Reliance’s private jets
With the latest addition, the number of private jets in Reliance’s fleet became ten. This includes the trusted Airbus A319 ACJ which has been with the family for the last 18 years. Besides, there are two Bombardier Global 5000, two Dassault Falcon 900, one Bombardier Global 6000 and an Embraer ERJ 135 in the fleet. Meanwhile, the Embraer 135 has been used by Reliance Industries for the last 16 years. The Ambanis also own a Dolphin and Sikorsky S 76 helicopters. The family mostly uses these helicopters for their short trips.
