West Bromwich Albion's loss at Huddersfield Town guaranteed Leeds United a top-two finish in the Championship.
The win moves Leeds up to third on 10 points, albeit having played an extra game, two points behind Villa, while leaders Everton, who have 13 points, are at Southampton on Sunday.
The result left Everton top of the standings on a maximum 12 points from four games, three ahead of Leicester City and champions Liverpool, who each have a game in hand.
It would be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp's men can maintain their stride and keep the Cup at Anfield for another season.
