In December 2024, the department suspended 38 revenue staff who obtained welfare pensions meant exclusively for extremely poor beneficiaries.
UPS accounts will have a separate Permanent Account Number (PAN).
The enhanced DA and Dearness Relief will be disbursed along with salaries and pensions from April 2025, payable from May 2025 onwards.
This development comes after the EPFO said that 7.35 lakh out of 17.49 lakh applicants seeking higher PF pensions are not eligible for the benefit.
The petition challenged the pro rata order issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on February 14, 2024
Legal experts said that a norm for calculating higher pensions cannot be implemented by issuing a circular since its is not included in the EPS rules.
Officials said that the state’s severe financial crisis also prevented the government from adopting UPS.
The circular was sent even as various courts are still examining petitions challenging the pro-rata norm.
The action was taken under Rule 10 of the Kerala Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1960, citing serious disciplinary violations.
