Over 100 teams comprising 170 participants have signed themselves up for Dakshin Dare 2015.Bangalore: India’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki flagged off the seventh edition of the Dakshin Dare rally from Orion Mall at Malleshwaram here on Sunday.
Over 100 teams comprising 170 participants have signed themselves up for six days of the treacherous and torturous expedition, which is set to conclude in Hyderabad on August 8.
The loop, this year, incorporates the most inhospitable terrains of Shimoga, Chitradurga, Bellary and Mangalore, where man and machine will battle it out with nature for the illustrious motorsport title.
Flagging off the rally, Tarun Garg, Senior Vice President, National Sales and Network, Maruti Suzuki said, “Dakshin Dare is our effort to provide the thrill of off-road rallying experience to motorsport enthusiasts in South India.
“It is a recipe of thrill, beauty, cars, talent, twists and turns, challenging rallyists to achieve greater milestones in their motorsport journey. At Maruti Suzuki, we believe that rallies bring out the best in men and machines, and the increasing participation each year is encouraging and helps us strengthen such motorsport events.”
While 38 teams are locking horns with each other in Endurance, the Ultimate Car and Ultimate Bike categories have 24 and 38 teams, respectively. The rally route is dotted with tarmac and uneven rocky paths. Expected rains along the route will make it even more gruelling.
Maruti Suzuki has been conducting some of the world’s most popular motorsport rallies such as Raid-de-Himalaya (north India) and Desert Storm (west India), giving birth to ace rallyists such as Suresh Rana.
Besides defending champions Sandeep Sharma, Varun Davessar, Karthik Maruti and Sankar Anand, the latest edition of Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare 2015 will see participation from regions such as Nashik, Manali, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Mysore and Kolkata.
