Chitradurga: Wind turbines, rocky ridges, gales and hair-pin curves marked the first day terrain of Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare 2015, which was flagged off at Bengaluru on Sunday.
The participants, along with the organisers and media, reached the scenic stage at Chitradurga way before daybreak and the first instalment of the rally took place in two legs – Windfarm and Alpha.
In the Ultimate Car category, the participants covered a total distance of 75 km. While defending champion Sandeep Sharma and his navigator, Karan Arya, who rode in a Gypsy, clocked 1:33:49, Samrat Yadav and Gaurav completed it in 1:36:55, for a close second.
The Ultimate Bike category witnessed Arvind K.P. racing towards the first position in 1:28:44, followed by Nataraj and Vishawas S.D. who came second and third, respectively.
The Endurance category saw a real tough fight and the participants covered a total distance of 370 km. The speedsters were tested on the Time Speed Distance (TSD) format and Dilip Jain and Chandu Shekhar lead the rally covering the required distance in 40 seconds followed by Subhir Roy and Niraj who accomplished the distance in 42 seconds.
On Day 2, the rally participants will be passing the scenic route of the coastal belt of Karnataka moving towards Shimoga covering a distance of 220 km.
