Dakshin Dare 2015 The four-wheelers had a rather smooth sailing on the third day of Dakshin Dare 2015 on Wednesday. Merin Rebecca

Bellary: A spectacular route crosses the hillocks, bound for the historic city of Hampi, on the bank of river Thungabhadra, where the third day of Dakshin Dare 2015 action took place.

The villagers quipped in amusement as the riders vroomed past them. But, for the participants, it was a date with danger as they not only had to manoeuvre sharp meanders alongside Thungabhadra canal, but also the rugged terrain that put the mettle of their engines on test.

A few vehicles broke down in the middle of the stage and had to be towed back to Vidya Nagar township. A rider had a close shave after his bike skidded off the road and fell into the canal.

While the bikers had a real tough time to finish the leg crossing rivers and canyons, the four-wheelers had a rather smooth sailing.

Covering a total distance of around 100km, Maruti’s Sandeep Sharma and Karan Arya maintained their lead in Extreme Cars category by clocking 3:03:40.

The pair of Samrat Yadav- Gaurav and Suresh Rana-Parminder duo a close competition with each other throughout the day. At the end, Samrat and Gaurav reached the finish line in 3:08:48 to take the second spot, closely followed by Rana and Parminder who completed the same in 3:11:00 coming third.

In the Extreme Bikes category, Arvind K.P., who crossed the finish line in 2:52:41 took the top spot. Natraj and Abdul Wahid came second and third, by completing the distance in 2:56:54 and 3:06:07, respectively.

In the Endurance category, Asgar Ali with Mustafa from Team Maruti and Ganesh Moorthy along with Nagarajan moved up the ladder to second and third sport, respectively. When the day ended, Dilip Jain, along with Chandra Shekhar, beat the other two as he moved from the second to first position. Subhir Roy and Nirav Mehta from Team Maruti slipped from the first to the ninth position due to the increase in penalty points.

Minaxi Purohith along with her navigator Sagar M. zoomed past the other drivers to reach the 10th position in the Endurance category. The trick time control that was introduced in the category proved to be strenuous especially for the amateur drivers.

On Thursday, the rallyists will be traveling through the Jindal plant in the area of Siruguppa covering a distance of around 100 km.
