Former international Anas Edathodika said Super League Kerala side Malappuram FC will set up a residential academy. Anas, who captained Malappuram FC in the inaugural season of SLK, has taken charge as the franchise's Scouting Director.

Anas said he will work with Malappuram FC assistant coach Cleofas Alex to prepare a detailed talent-scouting strategy. Alex was a former coach at Chennaiyin FC before joining Malappuram for SLK-1.

The retired centre-back said the franchise also plans to establish at least ten academies in various cities in Kerala. He said the aim is to strengthen the club's roster. “Our focus is to create a sustainable talent pipeline that will eliminate the need to look outside for players in the future,” Anas said.

Malappuram had a disappointing campaign in the inaugural season, finishing fifth among the six participants. “We are in the process of revival, learning from last season’s mistakes. Appointing Anas as the scouting director is a critical step in ensuring we meet the expectations of our vast fanbase,” said Team Director A P Shamsudheen.
