Former I-League champions Gokulam Kerala have completed the signing of Spanish striker Alex Sanchez on a one-year deal.
Sanchez, who was born without a right hand, is the only player with a disability to play in La Liga, the premier football league in Spain.
The 34-year-old, who represented Real Zaragoza in La Liga, also played for CD Tudelano, CD Teruel, CA Osasuna Promesas, Utebo FC and CA Osasuna.
He made 127 appearances in the Spanish third tier, scoring 42 goals. Last season, he netted 13 times in 33 matches for SD Ejea.
“We are overjoyed to welcome Alex Sanchez. Not only is he an incredibly talented player, but also an inspiration to all with his embodiment of perseverance and determination,” said club president VC Praveen.
Sanchez will team up with fellow foreign recruits Nili Perdomo, also of Spain and Cameroonian defender Aminou Bouba at Gokulam. The trio is expected to be part of Gokulam's campaign in the upcoming Durand Cup.
Gokulam will play Air Force in their Durand opener on August 9. Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC are the other teams in Gokulam's group.
